Palestine burns again

Shahabuddin khaled Chowdhury:

George Washington one of the founding fathers of the United States of America served the United States as its first elected president for two terms and at the end of his last term, he made the fare-well address on November 19, 1796 to the nation where he said,” “Permanent, inveterate antipathies against particular nation and passionate attachment for others should be excluded and that in place of them just and amicable feelings towards all should be cultivated -The nation which indulges towards another an habitual hatred or an habitual fondness, is in some degree a slave. It is a slave to its animosity or to its affection, either of which is sufficient to lead its astray from its duty and its interest”.

During last Ramadan the Palestinians Muslims were yet again became victims of atrocities and brutalities of the Israeli army while performing their prayers in the holy mosque Al Aqsa. The aggression is a regular phenomenon and so is the number of casualties and the world’s torch bearers of humanity, Justice and human rights are watching the scenes from the side lines without uttering a single word against Israeli aggression but never hesitate to blame Palestinians for their miserable failure to protect themselves. The world leaders whose eager sensitivity for human rights comes alive do not deserve to be acknowledged the deaths of more than three hundreds Palestinians a good number of them children and women. The death toll continues to increase with each Israeli attack. Of course Zionist govt of Israel as a compulsive liar justifies its brutal attack as self-defense. It is quite surprising and shocking that even President Biden’s reactions echoes the positions of Israel which is really frustrating and seriously dis-appointing for the Muslims all over the world. Uri Avnery, an anti Zionist Israeli Professor said, “Israel is a small America and America is a large Israel”.

This position is not befitting for United States of America, because America continues as a world leader for the last 75 years. Moreover it is a great democratic country. All the people of the world who accepted democracy as a cardinal principle of their political life are the permanent well-wishers of the United States of America. Any wrong decisions by United States of America pain those billion and billion of well-wishers throughout the world. Everywhere in the world there is subtle conspiracy against democracy. Till this moment United States is a great democratic country in the world which is the natural leader of all democratic forces throughout the world. If United States is dictated by Israel which is seriously lacking in human and democratic values, that will be the misfortune for the democratic forces all over the world. United States represent many rare human values which Israel cannot even imagine.

Noam Chomsky, a re-known Professor who is also a Jewish by birth refuted the argument of Israel that in war casualties are normal.

Noam Chomsky said, “Israel uses sophisticated attack, jets and naval assets to bomb densely crowded refugee camp, schools, mosques, apartment blocks and slums to attack a population that has no air force, no air-defense, no navy, no heavy weapons, no artillery units, no mechanized armour, no command in control, no army and calls it a war, it is not a war, it is a murder”.

So far as Muslim world is concerned, it seems that Muslim world is not only afraid of fighting, they are even afraid of talking. But in America there are more sympathetic voices for Palestine in side U.S congress and mass public opinion is there among the common people as well.

Within Democratic Party Itself, this has caused a deep concern. Apparently President Biden himself was under constant pressure within America to play an effective and a neutral role for a permanent solution of Palestinian problem.

However, the whole world came to know ceasefire between Israel and Hamas led Palestinians in the Gaza strip held under Egyptian mediators. The cease-fire began before dawn on Friday, Palestinians and Israelis are assessing the damages from 11 days of hostilities in which Israel pounded Gaza with air strikes and militants fired barrages of rockets in Israel. In the war 248 people including 66 children, had been killed in Gaza. U.S Secretary of State would visit Israel and Palestine authority in the occupied west bank on Wednesday and Thursday, hoping to build on the cease-fire mediated by Egypt with U.S Support.

U.S president Joe Biden said on Thursday that Washington would work with United Nations on bringing humanitarian and reconstruction assistance to Gaza, with safeguards against funds being used to arm Hamas, which the west deems a terrorist group. Besides Biden reiterated his pledge to help organize efforts to rebuild Gaza, he said on Friday creating a Palestinian state alongside Israel is the only answer to the conflict.

Biden also said he had told the Israelis to stop inter communal fighting in the flash point city of Jerusalem. He also expressed his commitment to Israel once again. There is no shift in my commitment to the security of Israel. Saudi Arabia king Salman condemned Israeli aggression in Jerusalem and the Gaza strip during a phone call with the Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas. The real intention of Israel will be clear if we go through a column published in the famous American weekly “TIME” magazine  published on 5th November, 1979 where Moshe Dayen, former Defense Minister of Israel clearly expressed  the real Israeli intention about the west bank and Gaza strip.   He said, “what would be the status of Gaza and west bank, I don’t know the term for it, but I know there will be two sovereign states in the area Israel with old boundaries , Jordan to the east river. And in between there is an area that should be under the sovereignty of neither Israel nor Jordan. What I am insisting is that we Israelis should have the right to settle there, that we should not be considered foreigners, and  that we should have the right to keep our forces there for our self defence”.
